Urban Planning Intern for the City of Westport, WA
I interned with the City of Westport for three months over the summer of 2017.
During my internship at the city, I worked mostly with Kevin Goodrich, the Public Works Director, and the Mayor Rob Bearden. I spent most of my time reviewing official city documents like the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan, the Shoreline Master Plan, Design Guidelines and the City of Westport Comprehensive Plan. I attended official city meetings, city council meetings and chamber council meetings. This experience gave me an opportunity to learn first hand about working in local government and about the processes that all municipal projects go through. I also got to familiarize myself with the structure and format of official city planning documents. My senior project is a result of my internship and from the finalization of the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan. Outreach & Media Intern for Seattle Shorts Film Festival
I worked for the Seattle Shorts Film Festival as the Outreach and Media Intern for five months.
I began my position with Seattle Shorts in October of 2016, helping complete last minute details before the 6th annual festival on Novermber 11-13th. I also worked the festival, which was held at the SIFF Theater at the Seattle Center. I updated and maintained social media, helped review films and contacted film critics for reviews. My main job for this internship was to help plan next year's festival held on September 9-10th at the historical Uptown Cinema. This is a big step for the festival since the new theater holds over twice as many people and is scheduled for two months earlier than usual. For next year, I worked on reserving a venue for the post-festival dance party and accumulating sponors. The staff for planning the festival includes only a festival director, festival coordinator and me. This enabled me to work closely with my bosses and allowed me to gain experience working professionally in a small team. This internship taught me about the short film culture, event planning, community engagement; the importance of maintaining constant communication within a team, and how to facilitate and manage crowds in a tight space and with a tight schedule.
