CEP 301, The Idea of Community - Core
- This class explores the origin and importance of community. By reading, analyzing, comparing and contrasting different philosophers, I have gained a better understanding of the diverse aspects affecting the formation and functionality of society. This course also fosters a sense community within the classroom by encouraging collective learning and participation.
GEOG 277, Geography of Cities - Diversity
- Through this course, the economic, cultural, social and political elements of cities are investigated, as well as the influences of location, function and structure of urban life. This class provides a better understanding of how cities operate and the challenges they face. This class is important in furthering my understanding of urban geographies.
CLAS 210, Greek and Roman Classics – Gen. Ed VLPA
- This course discusses classical literature of Greek and Latin authors, providing insight into the rising and falling of some of the first recorded societies and empires. So much of current society and literature is founded upon these ancient texts. This class also helps satisfy VLPA credits for general requirements for graduation.

CEP 302, Environmental Response - Core
- This class focuses on environmental challenges and how society can combat these issues through building and maintaining sustainable communities. Through this course, I will expand my knowledge of sustainability, environmental efforts and education, and community-based responses. This class supports my tentative trajectory of pursuing a career involving solving environmental and urban challenges.
GEOG 370, Environmental Conservation, Geographic Perspectives - Methods
- The emphasis of this course is how environmental conservation is influenced by science, politics, culture, economy, location and time. This class also discusses specific topics like forest management, environmental justice and wilderness preservation. This class is important because conservation is a huge, complex aspect of our environmental crisis, and it will work well in contrast to the sustainability classes I will be taking during this quarter.
ENVIR 439, Attaining Sustainable Society - Methods
- This class also examines environmental issues regarding sustainability and society. It focuses on evaluating the connections between the past, present and future of our environmental challenges, as well as introducing approaches to solutions for the wellbeing of society in the long run.
URBDP 538, Public Health and the Built Environment - Minor
- The purpose of this class is to analyze how the design of communities affects the health of the population. Specifically, this course looks at the impacts of built environments through design, land-use and transportation on physical health, mental health, air quality, social capital and environmental justice. This will give me perspectives on how to encourage and promote healthy community design.

CEP 303, Social Structures and Processes - Core
- This course discusses the use of social structures and processes regarding community and environment through issues of social organization, interrelatedness, citizenship, knowledge and communication. This class will be essential in connecting my knowledge of community and environment.
URBDP 300, Introduction to Urban Planning - Minor / Methods
- This class is essential for my understanding of cities and urbanization; it investigates concepts, principles, procedures and theories of urban planning. The course introduces ideas and responses to the evolution of and changes in social, economic and environmental settings. It is also required for my minor and brings together my course work in community and environment.
URBDP 473, Digital Design Practicum - Minor
- The aim of this class is to gain skill and proficiency in many different digital technologies and applications that are important for urban design and planning. Programs like Photoshop, InDesign and GIS are covered and are incredibly important and useful in real world applications, especially in the urban planning sector. Early Fall Start 2017
CHID 471, Tolerance, Difference and Identity in Amsterdam - Study Abroad / Methods
- This class is a five credit, month long study abroad program through the Comparative History of Ideas Department at UW, This class is useful in diversifying my coursework outside of the CEP and URBDP programs, and encourages me to apply topics of tolerance, identity, equity and intersectionality to my study of urban planning. Additionally, this course gives the opportunity to live in Amsterdam for a few weeks, experiencing the transportation infrastructure, park system and urban form of a great European city.
Autumn 2017
CEP 460 Planning in Context - Core
- This class works with the UW Livable Year program to partner with a different city every year, employing UW students to work on real world planning projects. Students learn how to be a professional planners working in the context of a municipal government. The course focuses on project management, teamwork, presentation skills and professionalism. URBDP 499 Planning Practicum - Minor
- Similar to Planning in Context, Planning Practicum also allows students to work on professional planning projects. The final product of this class can be found on the portfolio page.
CEP 446, Internship – Core
- This class is important for relating my real-world work/internship experience with the material and information I have gained rom my course work, as well as how my life choices affects others in society. For more information about my internships, go to the internship section of my ISP.
CEP 490 Senior Project Prep - Core
- This class will help me develop my senior project from an idea into a thorough final proposal. For more information about my senior project, go to the senior project portion of my ISP.

CEP 461, Ethics and Identity - Core
- Through this class I will learn about the many aspects of morality and ethics in planning for the benefit of the public. This course will provide insight into humanity and our environment through reading and discussing human potential, ecological context, moral responsibility, race, gender, ethnicity and beliefs. I think it is important to gain perspective and self-awareness in our diverse and complex society.
CEP 491, Senior Project Prep – Core
- This course will facilitate my progress, efficiency and success in working on my senior project. It will also hold me accountable to weekly checkins and it will provide feedback from peers to encourage the development of my project.
URBDP 480, Planning as a Profession - Minor
- This class provides an opportunity to meet and hear from professionals in the field of urban planning. Each week is a different lecturer speaking about their experiences in the public, private and/or nonprofit sectors of urban planning. This is provides important connections to people in the field and useful information for me to use when navigating the job market post-graduation.
ESRM 300, Sustainability Seminar – Methods
- Similar to Planning as a Profession above, this class consists of lectures from all different kinds of people in the field of sustainability. This course gives insight from professionals working in all different sectors of environmental sustainability related to climate change and gives students to chance to ask questions regarding their work.
Spring 2018
CEP 462, Community and Environment - Core
- This class ties together many of the disciplines I have been studying into one final core class. This course acts as a sort of wrap-up and synthesis of important concepts of community, environment and planning from the past two years. It also focuses on reflecting on and applying what I have learned to contemporary challenges and contexts.
ENV H 311, Introduction to Environmental Health– Methods
- The purpose of this class is to learn the many, complex relationships between humans and our environment. It will provide an opportunity for me to learn more about how humans can influence the quality of our environment and how to improve our health.
URBDP 423, Introduction to Urban Design – Minor
- This course gives me more context on the history and theories of urban design. It also explains the interdisciplinary impacts it has on architecture, landscape and urban planning. It will contribute to and reinforce my knowledge of everything urban.
